Dental Implants—Three Components
Implant-supported teeth are designed with a root and a crown much like your natural teeth. The three-part artificial tooth has:
- A titanium screw. We place it in your jaw, and it acts like a root, anchoring the tooth and securely holding it in place under the gum.
- An abutment. This supportive post protrudes from the implant and holds the final restoration (the crown) in place.
- A crown. Your dentist places this visible part of the implant.
Permanently Placed
Implants are made of titanium and bond with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This fusion of metal and bone allows for completely natural eating, chewing, and biting.
Don’t wait!
Your jawbone is a lot like a muscle and must be stimulated regularly to maintain its volume. So, the jawbone begins to deteriorate as soon as a tooth is extracted or falls out naturally.
